      Hey Rick,
Spring is finally here too after the longest winter, ever! Thanks for the birthday wishes, too!

  • I was just wondering that while putting our town compost on my raised beds this Spring. How do I know what the town picks up (leaves) along the roads is safe after composting? What if homeowners had used pesticides and herbicides – will it find its way into the curbside and hence the Town compost? Hmmm!

      Hi Jayne,
Thanks for your note. That’s a good question. From what I’ve learned, it seems that the best way to find out is to call the composting place and ask them what, if any, kind of testing they do on their compost. Some places test to see if compost meets certain standards, such as use on food crops, others don’t do any testing at all. If no testing is being done, you might want to avoid using the compost of edibles. If you use it on plants and you’re concerned about residual herbicides, try a small area of your garden first to be sure everything is okay. I hope this helps.
